Confident, Consistent Responses to Spontaneous Arrivals

This stand‑alone half‑day course is designed for Local Authorities seeking to up-skill practitioners who are, or will be, undertaking or overseeing Brief Enquiries as part of their role.

The training provides a clear, structured approach to responding to spontaneous arrivals and making defensible, child‑centred decisions at the earliest stage.

Delivered live via Microsoft Teams, the session combines presentations, videos, quizzes and external resources to support practitioners in their day‑to‑day work.

Learners take part in small‑group discussions and practical activities, with opportunities to reflect on real‑world challenges and share learning with colleagues.

The course equips social workers with up‑to‑date case law, guidance and best‑practice principles, helping Local Authorities strengthen consistency, reduce risk and consider the value of developing a dedicated Brief Enquiry policy.

By the end of the course, you will:

  • Understand the different referral pathways for spontaneous arrivals and how these shape decision‑making.
  • Have a strong understanding of recent case law judgments relevant to Brief Enquiries.
  • Understand best‑practice principles in assessing needs and thresholds at the point of arrival.

It was brilliant training, so informative and really increased my knowledge in this area.

SOCIAL WORK PRACTITIONER ON TRIPLE PLANNING TRAINING

I felt that the way the course was delivered was exceptional, the language used was easy to absorb and the use of examples made it all make sense.

INDEPENDENT SOCIAL WORKER

This was excellent training, I feel more informed and definitely more confident about the processes and triple planning. Jo facilitated the training brilliantly and kept interest throughout, allowing for discussion and questions and sharing her expertise. I would definitely recommend this training to others, I know this will make a difference in our practice and my management. Thank you.

INDEPENDENT REVIEWING OFFICER

Jo has so much knowledge and the volume of information about Triple Planning is huge but I think by the end of the day I had a lot more ideas of how to focus my plans more specifically to the young person and prepare them for all eventualities from the beginning rather than respond as the process is happening. Understanding that it is just about being aware of where to go or who to ask rather than having all the answers makes it feel less overwhelming. I know the resources and slides we were given will be used over and over again. I think this is essential training for anyone working with separated young people and only wish the circumstances of our immigration system were kinder.
